baronThis cropped and altered image is from a portrait by Jean – Auguste Dominique Ingres of Charles Joseph Laurent Cordier in 1810. the stormy background of the portrait and the flourishes of the scarf were a couple of the elements that drew me to the image. Cordier was a high ranking French official stationed in Rome. This is one of several images I have done with Ingres being the original source. He is an amazing painter, and I usually took liberties to accentuate or augment the proportional peculiarities found in his works. Every once in awhile  when working on these paintings one just comes together and things seem to work effortlessly -this was one of those. I had fun with this one.
